Expressions of Interest “Sharing the Passion” Practitioners Conference
The 2018 Outdoors NSW Practitioners Conference is seeking Expressions of Interest for “Break Out Workshops” held during the conference from 25th August to 26th August, 2018. This conference will be held at the Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Rec Centre.
The theme for the conference is “Sharing the Passion”. Ignite. Involve. Inspire.
Deadline for submission of EOI is 5 pm March 28th, 2018
The intent of this conference is that it be the premier professional development and networking opportunity for any practitioner working in the outdoors. The vision is that sessions be valuable learning opportunities for front line practitioners delivering outdoor experiences. Whether this is based on hard skills, facilitation and soft skill development, or shared learning regarding contemporary issues, we are looking for workshops and scenarios which are practical and relevant.
Concurrent Session length
To encourage front line outdoor leaders who may not have presented before, we are for the first time offering the opportunity of a 15 minute presentation, including questions. No death by PowerPoint here. Short, sharp, sharing of tips, ideas or things that work for you. Some examples might be great recipes for group cooking, share your favourite game; my approach to winning over difficult students; great time filler while you’re waiting for pick up; top tips for getting off on the right foot; my favourite debriefing strategy; my best bit of new gear is, tips for teaching navigation; my top tip is…)
Two hours for practical sessions (e.g. sailing; canoeing; vertical rescue; SUP; scenarios)
45 minute presentation including questions (e.g. bushfire survival; child protection update: what you need to know; technology and apps for the outdoors)
Expressions of Interest information
Conference facilitators applying to the expressions of interest are reminded that their sessions are not financially remunerated. If you choose to stay for the entire conference presenters receive a reduction on their conference fees.
Workshop proposals will be evaluated on content, relevance to the conference theme, extent to which they are interactive and likely to meaningfully engage participants and learning objectives.
Point Wolstoncroft offers excellent facilities for indoor sessions with AV facilities.
Outdoor sites suitable for workshops include: Lake Macquarie, high and low ropes course; canoes, yachts; SUP’s, mountain biking; climbing/abseil tower; eucalypt forest; seated fire circles; Indigenous midden; lots of open space (either grassy, tree’d or waterside)
